Edwards County Texas Militia is now backed by its County Electives!
Yesterday I went in front of our county commissioners after meeting with our Sheriff and County Judge about 10 days before yesterday. The reason was to reach out to them to announce the formation of the Texas State Militia unit for the county to see if they would support a safely structured and legal militia unit to serve the county and support our sheriff and the county staff in the case of emergencies. The response was very good and they thought it to be a good thing for citizens to participate bringing back the legal Militia concept to serve our county and community. This lead to yesterdays presentation to the county commissioners and their staff, this includes the County Sheriff, The County Judge The Tax assessor and the county Emergency management director and of course the local citizens of our county!!
My wife had put together these information packets that includes these 4 things. 1. Layout of the Texas State Militia, this lays out the safe structure in which members join the Militia Unit, our mission statement and the contacts for the T.S.M.. This shows responsibility for a law abiding and professional platform in which we form as a Militia Unit. 2. Documents from our state Constitution that show the legitamacy in which we form and the right that we are excercising. 3. The reference to the law in which lays out the simplicity of the Law itself, education is the key. 4. The National Miltia Standards Article 1 So they understood what our duties clearly are!! The end result was incredible, the commissioners knew this was not up to a vote for them, they knew this as a right that they had a duty to support as long as it was professionally set up and it was for every citizen to join if they wanted in which the Texas State Militia is just that. So now in Edwards County Texas we begin to recruit for the Edwards County unit that will serve the Sheriff and his Deputies and serve our community at the same time. I learned something that we must all start doing, before we set up our units we must educate the Sheriff and our County judge so they are aware of the intent of our formation, then take that to our county commissioners as well.
I was asked by one of the commissioners, "Was I already forming the county unit?" My reply was No Sir,, we did not want to shove this down anyones throat in our county, we wanted to provide a safe, lawful and viable structure that everyone could join and we also wanted our county electives to be part of this at the beginning so they had their voice. This was the biggest thing that won them over to supporting this event! So Patriots We are presenting history here in Texas with this event! Edwards county Texas is the first county that will have its electives supporting their citizens Militia in nearly 98 years!

Thanks everyone. This is one example of some of the things that Minuteman and myself have been preaching for awhile now. Everything starts at the local level, education, community service/involvement and the facts at hand along with presentation. We started this project a couple of weeks ago with first talking to the Sheriff, County Judge, one of our deputies and a county commissioner which lead into the presentation yesterday at the County Commissioners Meeting. We spent several hours gathering all the pertinent laws, facts and printing and putting the packets together on Monday.
The meeting was not only informative for them, but it was as well informative for us. We found out that there are alot of counties where federal and state funds have been cut as to disaster prepardness. Needless to say everyone was most eager to hear that a legit and professional militia would be on hand to work in conjunction with not only the sheriff, but the county elected officials for the benefit of the county and it's residents. Minuteman also let the commissioners know that some of our members had CERT training and that it was also encouraged that if the deputies wanted to get involved with the training, they could do so.
We also had the opportunity to meet with one of the candidates running for sheriff. He kept us tied up in conversation for an hour and a half after the meeting.He had alot of questions and told us he was really happy to meet us as we gave him the needed direction as to find the answers to his questions. When Minuteman was giving the presentation he, the sheriff canidate stood up and told the commissioners that if he was elected as sheriff that we had his full backing and support.We also got to spend some time with the Emergency Management Director and he was really excited about working together.
Before we could get out of town, we had several locals step up to the plate and was ready to get involved. Then this morning we had a call from our partner here on the ranch and he was quite pleased with yesterday's meeting. He told us that when he was able to get more mobile (he just had surgery) that he wanted to get up with some of the elected officials in his county and do the same thing.
Yesterday was very rewarding needless to say........it is days like that where it makes it all worth while.
