I think this is the right place. Anyway in light of the Colorado theatre attack I went looking and got this back. Information says that a vinegar soaked handkercheif will pretty much neutralize tear gas along with a tight fitting pair of swim/dive goggles. Advice is carry a small bottle of vinegar with bandannas one for every member of the family in a ziplock bag. Dump the vinegar into the bag, soak the bandannas, and cover your mouth and nose. Head to high ground. Any of you guys/gals able to validate this as an effective defense? I know about gas masks, pretty well up on smoke grenades and have experienced them more than once but what do you think? Thanks in advance.

Baking soda should be used to decontaminated the skin. Never rub, scour or or apply hot water, only cool rinsing and flushing.. And never apply contact lenses.
The best treatment for pepper spray and some pepper pellets sometimes confused for teargas is a cool fresh milk rinse.

Cranberry Juice works well too!
Permalink Reply by Phillip P. Foreman on July 20, 2012 at 6:12pm Thanks guys. Probably ought to put a kit thing together and toss it in the glove box. So it looks like the pepper spray is just that and relies on capsiason as the irritant while tear gas must be lye or alkaline based. These are good things to know. {8<{)
