This is just a friendly reminder to all active Law Enforcement Officers that have department issued computers that they take home and or use for their own personal reasons.

5 years ago while working in investigations my Sgt. came into my office and told me that I needed to go to IT and pick up a loaner lap top because the FBI was on their way to pick up my computer, this kinda shocked me so I asked why they were interested in my computer? My Sgt. stated that command had told him that my computer and one the was issued to one of the fire department had been hacked by China.

As the shock wore off, (really scared the heck out of me LOL), I did as told and waited for the agent to come get my computer, while waiting I started to think.....I took this computer home and used it for social networking and other personal business, (no way did I ever use it for porn, thank God. LOL), I started getting worried about what the FBI would find on it and were they really coming to get it for the reason that I was told?

About two hours later an agent arrived and I handed him my lap top, I asked him why he was taking it and he confirmed that my computer and that one issued to one of my cities fire departments had been hacked by China, he said that China has a regiment of solders that spend 24 hours a day 7 days a week trying to hack local, state and federal computer programs because this is one way China can shut us down in an event of a war.

Anyway the agent said that they would have my lap top for a couple of months and I would get it back ASAP, well it took a month and I got it back without any problems.

The reason I post this is to warn LE to be careful of what you say and do with your computers, they can retrieve anything that was on your computer since the day it first had power, NOTHING is secret as far as a computer is involved, also EVERYONE needs to know that goes for your cell phones as well, if you think that every text or number that you called or received was deleted....think again it's still in there.

So if you have something to say to your militia friends that the man don't need to know, say it in person.
