WRAM - We dedicate our hearts, minds and bodies to protecting our great Republic!
As some of you know I am not known for many words. Nevertheless, I wish to bring forth the strategies and strengths of specifically the "Sioux" - 7 tribes now living in the Northwest area of the continental US.
How do I know about these Ways? From participating in a "boot camp" program many years ago called "Spiritual Warrior Training" - the format ranging from martial arts to the most sacred ceremony, the Sun Dance. Then, before the Western world corrupted the spirituality to allmost zero with the introduction of gambling (let there be no doubt that was intentional), lived on the Pineridge Rez and taught children at Crazy Horse School. (The kids weren't too much for study, so I turned on the radio to their local station which daily broadcast the legal activities between the "Indians" and DC. There has been so much the general populace has been redirected from.) Anyway, I want you to know that my Lakota family never took government money. Somehow they made it day by day, although in the winter every year there are always "elderlies" who die in their beds from the bitter cold and wind... not that they didn't share, NO one had the money for the very expensive heating.
Anyway, I am off the track a bit.
I also remember being a full blood male warrior, fighting (balancing between no action and action, always) in order to save my family, which I was not able to do.
There is still some pain in my heart from that life, I am sure. My tears tell me so.
So today, the first of Lady Hawk's "Warrior Wisdom" if you allow me to say so. Because the term warrior really means a total way of life to the indians, not simply fighting.
In Service:
An Indian child is trained from the beginning to be of service. Not just to wash dishes (does anyone do that anymore?) when mama begs, but to learn to see what needs to be done without asking. Before 12 years to help the women by running errands, babysitting the youngsters, joining ceremonies like sweat lodge and to haul water with the adult men. They are always busy and because it is a life style never complain, because they are respected by their elders. As the youth gains years, more and more difficult tasks are required and expected. There is harmony within work. Not too many computers. Not too many electronics, but more and more coming.
To be of service as an Indian, it takes a keen eye. Always watching what is going on. Picking up the trash, bringing tissues to a crying grandma over the grief the women carry.
Thank you,
Mitakuye Oyasin! (Lakota for "we are all one"!

Permalink Reply by MRS MM on September 19, 2012 at 6:32pm Lady Hawk thank you for this post. I have always felt the Native Americans were about the only ones that had things right. A few months ago I was told about a book called "The Red Tao" so I got a copy and started reading it. I really think that everyone would benefit in some way or another by checking out this way of life. Another good book is by Sun Bear called "Black Dawn, Bright Day." Sun Bear was a true prophet....when he wrote this book it was what he saw that would happen in the future.......now that it is that future, what he talked about has come to light and is happening right now. These books have a wealth of knowledge and insight and could be very beneficial to the days ahead as far as being prepared, being more community based, being a better warrior, being able to survive, etc. I think that everone could learn from our Native American brothers and sisters.......just think, they came the closest to experiencing true freedom.
Permalink Reply by Lady Hawk on September 19, 2012 at 7:07pm Thank you. You know what is really ironic is that as poor as we were, and I mean really poor... I had the most fun in my life because they are always teasing each other, telling great jokes and laughing at everything. At first the laughter confused me because they laugh as they tell the most horrific treatments they did and still endure.
I appreciate your compassion. I miss being there even though they have "7" levels of law enforcement EVERYWHERE!
Yes, those were the original ways. So much love, respect and FUN! I know we can get it back and feel like REAL human beings!

Permalink Reply by Lady Hawk on September 20, 2012 at 5:53pm Greetings, Minuteman... I appreciate you, your love and the "time allowance".Of course everyone is aware that women are a different breed :'). And when something or someone offers so much love that takes away so much pain of 500 years - she can use some time to "feel through it". The emotions were surprise, shock, some disbelief, wonder, amazement, and the main emotion was the tremendous release of adversity of our planet. With a definite feeling that from your post, the whole world will heal. That was and still is my belief. And then it's a question of "how to" - for me to make sure that all is considered in your loving offer. That it's not simply a casual thing. It's not about a quick phone call or perhaps letter. No. Too many things have happened which hurt so many regardless of what color.
Being on the "winning" side is usually not so comfortable either. No, your offer means pomp and circumstance. Honoring ceremony. Bringing together what is significant to "both" sides. To bring it all forth, the beauty of each path together in a very significant way. These things I have been pondering since yesterday. How to make it good, memorable, exciting, caring, changing, permanent, lasting, loving. Understanding for once. The respect that has been missing. To honor in a specific way all the pain and sorrow all has experienced. I think of these things. Alignment in principle. Not having to change any beliefs except that each belief is accepted as one's truth to be held and behold. That strangers may come into another's ceremony and immediately know how to be respectful. So that we can share goodness and godness regardless of what it looks like. And to leave such an experience changed. Changed into a greater lovingness - a heightened understanding from without and within that goodness and godness is truly everywhere and we are all welcomed into that beauty of life and maintain its sacredness. This is what I have been thinking about.
If we could "work" together to create a beautiful, memorable event. A grand event. One that is overdue, yet in perfect timing.
I am looking forward to this new peace and hue-man harmony.Am looking forward to being of great service.
Thank you.

Permalink Reply by MRS MM on September 20, 2012 at 5:56pm Every man has two wolves in his heart, one is love and one is hate. Which one wins? The one that you feed the most.
Permalink Reply by Lady Hawk on September 20, 2012 at 5:32pm My only enemy is that within... we create our own reality. We are not victims of anything except self. Yet the enemy within has been used to control, and those days are over. Original peoples had no enemies.. having enemies we created over the sense of greed. Of course I would protect myself. But if I am clear within and "comfortable" with Creator's love, I will not be harmed. Truly I cannot be harmed... life never ends. So it then depends on how we choose the game and the rules we make up of the game.
Permalink Reply by Chancy Yardbird on September 20, 2012 at 6:40pm The being within can be an enemy or true friend, it is true. Sometimes we ARE our own worst enemy. I think it begins when we choose to set up our own boundries. Sure most people make those boundries look like they are to keep others or dangers out. But Most boundries are set to control ourselves. If we choose to have a very narrow view of something, we simply do ourselves the disservice of blocking out competing ideas or allowing in only select information that supports rather than challenges our already made up minds.
Breaking these bonds and shackles should be easy it seems. But too often too many unfounded fears and unfounded blind suspicions dwell within and hold the keys to our freedom.
