Nice post, Richard. Former House Speaker Tip O'Neill had it right . . . all politics is local. In order to get control of your country, you first have to have a handle in your own locale and in your own state. To correct things in your state, there is the referendum and initiative processes. Also, most states have state Constitutional Convention provisions in their state Constitutions which allows for reeling in out of control state governent. Likewise, their is a National Constitutional Convention provision in Article V of the Constitution which allows the state legislatures to reign in an overreaching federal government.
Also, for all the disgusted out there, I would also suggest employing the Liberty Districts concept. There IS strength in numbers. See link below:

This is possible to get things straightened out on the local level and it will work up the pike with time. For instance our town had a city ordinance prohibiting the carry of any weapon in city parks period. With the help of Nebraska Oathkeepers and many citizens and level heads in City council. We repealed that ordinance to align with State of Nebraska carry laws. We can now officially carry open or concealed in our city parks now. The PD was even briefed that the ordinance was repealed.

That might work in some areas, but the majority of folks in my state truly believe that:

The politicians in local, state, and federal government all know more than the average person.
The government will protect it's citizens.
Everything you see in network news and mass media is true.
Anything not reported by the major news outlets cannot possibly be true.
If private ownership of firearms was banned, there would be no more gun crime.
Its better to call the police than to defend yourself in a violent situation.
The US Constitution is very flawed, and has little bearing on our national and global situation.
A one-world-government would be in the best interest of the populance.
Anyone who has served in the US military after WWII is a baby killing, military state supporting, fascist.

These folks actually believe these things.

those sleepy people you describe will be left alone during the first "clearances" granted, but they will be among the first to expire when their food runs out and they can't fulfill their prescriptions. Sounds like they are too far down the wrong road to even worry about, sad but true. So asleep they dont even know they have a prepster among them they could bother for food and other basics, keep it that way.

Write your Congressman, prep, educate yourself and your loved ones, create a rally point for your family if separated, get a firearm legally, carry it, speak often with LEO and your minister, buy your wife some sensible shoes, save your money, talk with your neighbors, dont say TOO much, write in your local newspaper, join your militia, start a Civil Defense group, inquire after your local government their disaster plan, same with your children's school, store gasoline, store food, water, wearable parts to your car, firearm, get a list of stores you can access for prepping supplies and information, NETWORK! these are all pretty low energy ideas but a place to start for some. What point are you at with prepping? You wont be of any value to the people that will be answering your above questions if you're scurrying around trying to feed yourself and stay warm during a poweroutage.

local militias are illegal in my state. (yeah, i know, the state law that makes them illegal is illegal/unconstitutional, but they still arrest people for violating illegal laws). as is carrying open or conceiled without a ccw and only judges family members and those able to donate more than $50,000.00 to the state democrat party are able to obtain ccw.

agree with the rest of the stuff, though. and one more thing - teach the wife and kids to shoot. take them camping and hiking. i was infantry and spent lots of time 'camping', but still learned a lot of bushcraft by being a scout leader well after i was done with active duty.

Knightindullarmor, while we are in two different states in the Peoples Republic of MA militias are also illegal thanks to Obama's mini-me Gov. Duval Patrick.We can obtain CCW's especially in rural areas, which are much easier than urban areas. As a subsitute to militias myself and several others nearby have become members of the The United States Civil Defense Association. Even the oppessive Duval would have a hard time telling people they can't belong to a nationwide organization.

Every day more and more of our rights are being taken away, some can't form militias, now that should have been the last straw, but nobody called it, the people just let it happen, even something as trivial as a soda, the people let it happen. The same law makers that some suggest you call and complain to are the ones who are doing the most damage. Tell me how a 5 cent tax on ammo ( thats 5 cents for each round) is going to stop crime, it won't, you and I know it. Tax, tax, and more taxes, not a word from any one.
We have the right to bare arms, but only if you have never made a mistake in your life, and in some states not at all, how did that happen. We the people let it happen that's how.
It has become a big business to sell end of the world survival gear and supply's, look how much MRE's cost.
Every payday I try and buy equipment and supply's, and pray I'll never have to use them. I don't want the END to happen, I want to stop it from starting.
The militias or what ever you have been forced to call your selfs need to come together as one, I believe that if we can do that and speak with one voice we would be heard, the tea party did it, but the politicians high jacked that movement to.
We all say enough is enough but we are scattered and no one hears us, we must come together and scream ENOUGH! There arm men and women who have what it takes to lead in the militias, that is what we need, leadership. Our forefathers had to come together to fight for freedom, they did not start out as a pro army, and they did not start winning until they did, each militia group has a leader, those leaders need to start talking with each other and come together, we can make things happen without even firing a shot, together we can change the corse, alone our groups can do no more than wait for them to come and take all the freedoms we have left.
