What do you do when your family looks at you like you are crazy for getting prepared?

Hello all. I'm writing this discussion to get some helpful suggestions on what to do when your family isn't exactly in the same boat with you when you are getting prepared for when the s hits the fan. I've been getting prepared for the last couple of years stocking up on food, ammo and everything else. My wife and I got married in '09 and she wasn't too sure about my stockpiling. She has come around to it pretty well over the last couple of years but her family still thinks I'm going overboard with this stuff. I'm wondering if anyone else on here has had this problem and how they delt with it. I'm hoping the comments will also help other people who are new to this deal with family members who aren't in the same boat. Thanks everyone.

The only ones that know are pretty much our kids.  We already know that they will be relying on us if and when.  I don't care for any one else knowing.

It don't really matter where you live. When all hell breaks loose someone will be at your front door, wanting to know what they should do. And they won't likely really understand what you tell them, standing there at your front door. They will likely be some of the same people that gave you the hard time and they will likely be family.

But look at things this way. The man with the money is the boss. That also holds true for the man or woman with the supplies of food and other much needed items will be the boss.

So should the bottom drop out, take charge.

Do ya really think that Nam Vet? I sure hope it's the twins from down the block. NV, some people just help...because. I do it with-out a tip jar. It makes me feel good, it makes them feel good and many things don't need a contractor, just my tool bag and a volt meter and 10 min. of my time. It all started with one little kid with a skateboard. PM'd the wheel bearing, packed fresh grease, torqued it all down and even put a Bio-waste sticker on the bottom of his board (he liked that the most). Couple week's later they had a BoomBox with a bad speaker wire...fixed. People wave at me when they see me & my dog and that makes me feel good, cause my house is empty! I see it this way, some are lawyers, some are engineers w/tools and some are in need. I've alway got time for those in need of my skill or advice, fixing "things" it's so simple for me. Let's hope the lawyers got gold, cause their not even human, are they. Unless he's the father of the twins of course. If your not part of the solution...your a lawyer, who needs or will mis them!
I wouldnt worry about it. Unless they pay your bills. Otherwise they are probably jealous!

My wifes family has told me straight out that they don't need to prepare, they have me to take care of them. Is't that just like a liberal. All ways looking for someone else to do all the hard work for them. To be honest with you (and I know I shouldn't say this) when the balloon goes up I think I will just head to my secondary bug out location ('cause they all know my primary) and just leave them behind. If they want to act like sheep then let them live like sheep. If they want someone to feed them and take care of them they can call on FEMA.

These people have are completely dependent on the media to tell them what to think and how to respond to conservatives. These guys are complete Zombies. As far as I'm concerned, I'm making the hard decision now while I still have my supplies. I could wait, but I will still be coming to the same conclusion later, only with fewer supplies. In my heart I have already said my good byes.

CavScout, i learned long ago that life is hard...but it's fare. It's time we all learned that one. Darwinism at it's finest! I always felt sorry for that liberal mind-set, so smart, so smug, so easy to beat in sports and fun to watch run. And so ill prepared for the REAL world without clue one. Life is fare.

What do I do????????????

I get all decked out in my best camo, give em a big grin, shrug my shoulders and give them a really childish wave using my fingers, and as my backside is going thru the front door, I flip 'em the bird.......EXACTLY in that order. And I try to pass some gas if my system can muster some up. Because thats what I think about it.........

  Sir:

Welcome to the club.  I've been doing this for thirty years. my wife longer.

I give run rucks for christmas with basics in them.

Some folks won't listen.  Deal with it.

To some, you're the crazy guy, deal with it.

If they don't listen, just soft-peddle it.  Write it off as emergency preparedness and hand them some DHS flyers.  Point out the crisis de-jour, and tell them you are concerned that they will be ready for a 72 hour emergency.  Remind them of Katrina.  Then go about your normal boy scout thing.

I have thirty years worth of looking like the cartoon dude with a sign on my shoulder saying "The End Is near".  I'm still preparing.  I'm still crazy.  I just deal with it.

At the risk of being called nuts I have warned all my family members and close friends and some have listened but none have prepared properly, not one and others just think I am nuts.

Think about this because I have and I think you should too. Now I live alone I am preparing for only for myself as I do not have the $ to provide for others in my family.

What happens when it all falls apart and the distribution system fails and there no grocery stores and no way to resupply? I have about 15 relatives that live close to me plus many more friends, about 30 and most of them know I have prepared with food storage.

I have shot myself in the foot and stuck it in my mouth at the same time from warning all these people. When the crap hits the fan they will all come looking for me and my 1 year supply becomes a 10 day supply if I help them.

I already knew what I was going to do before I told anyone. But if you’re in this situation what will you do? Share the food and supplies and wind up running out way before you expected because you didn’t plan on feeding a dozen people? Who could afford to buy enough can goods to last 12 or 15 people for 6 months? So be careful about who you tell and what you tell them about your preparations. It would be safe to tell them your armed and have lots of amo.

I think that what is happening is called "Normalcy Bias". It's what got the Jews slaughtered during WWII. They ignored the ominous signs of what was happening around them and convinced themselves all was going to be okay. The few that did leave were looked upon as crazy, until afterwards of course. My family I have cut ties with except my ex-Marine son who is a prepper too. We live during a time when your family may become worried and turn you in to the government as a domestic terrorist as things worsten and the Obama regime uses class warfare to break us down. If you have studied the situation that's evolving around us and feel that sensation of a noose tightening you need to do what is appropriate to avoid a diasaster in your own life. I guess the dollar is in really bad shape now. The head of the IMF seems to have been setup. He resigned and now most of the heat is disappearing. Must be we need someone who will play ball. I'm looking towards november as the time things will start to look bad even to the ones who are still clueless. I'd stay with like minded people who are friends and family. The ones who are fooled may become a danger to us all.
MGardner, i think your correct on all points with your (big-picture) view, but one, it's a "Apathy-Bias". I think at this time in America, with change(s) that hold seen & unseen ramifications, just down the road and well into the future for all who live and love this Nation! Some only know "Apathy" and why not? That switch gives light, my car starts fine, my credit card works, the store has food & shampoo, my i-pod's only half full, my PC updates itself, a good job (taking the credit & spreading the blame), i'm even on Face Book & soo popular....life is good! Everything else is "politics as usual", i'm above politics! I ask you MGardner (and all at WRAM) do we help this person? Go with your gut and be true to your heart. I am sure we all would say.....yeah. Yeah....of course! And to those who had that knee-jerk thought "Freak'em" i got my family to feed. I say to you, where all freakin family! And i hope/pray....you & your's will find compassion and mercy on your Day of need....not apathy.

There are many people we know that are needy right now and we help them. Our neighborhood is safe right now because we patrol it. Two years ago they were breaking into cars and stealing off the porches, stealing mail and packages. Remember Obama won with over half the popular vote too so there's some who view us as a radical threat. I have no pressing needs except to be free. I live simply. The problem with the ones who are mindlessly going along with the flow is that they are being convinced that "we" are the problem. "We" being the ones who are hardened and trained for warfare and survival. They really will offer us no compassion but extermination. Look at what the Supremes did this last week upholding illegal search and seizure and no one complained.

Armed March Update 39 Replies

Here's the latest about Adam Kokesh' armed march on Washington DC, designed to demonstrate that we will not give up our guns. I listened to that interview and he makes a lot of sense. The guy fought in Fallujah so he obviously is no coward. And…Continue
