WRAM - We dedicate our hearts, minds and bodies to protecting our great Republic!
Many of us are up in years. And some of those are not tops in the Good health Department.
So we have at one time ask ourselves this question.
"What the hell am I doing here with all of these young people?"
We also ask, "What can I do that would be expected of me when the chips are down?"
We still have eyes and ears for the most part and if nothing else, over the years he have learn to be Patient.
What we need to know is this. To start out with, we need to know a few of those young men and women who will likely be out there with weapons at the ready. These are the ones that still have speed of foot and can relay the information that we might have collected from the enemy movement around us.
We just have to prevent the enemy from seeing what we are doing. Information Gathering is very important to our cause and you can bet that the enemy will be doing likewise. Maybe some bad information from us to the enemy will work wonders.
This is when, 'One Stands Alone' will come in very handy. because we move slowly, we won't likely be seen as a threat and that should allow us more freedom to collect information.
We all have a role to play in the Fight For Freedom. So lets all do our share as well as we can.

Permalink Reply by Nam Vet on June 11, 2012 at 8:12am Our biggest lessons will be from those that might have faced hard times , whether in life or in combat.
We can all stand to learn from those that has lived it. Learn to get along with far less now so that you will have little problems doing it when you have no cther Options.
This is something that all of us can work on. Learing to exist on one can of beans alone per day is a great lesson plan. Gettion our brains used to something now will only help out later on. Get Up To Date on the weeds that are edible in your areas will also come in handy. Stocking up on spices now will or should come in handy at a later date. Remember the story about, 'Rock Soup.' Don't know that story yet! I suggest that you look it up. It is mearly a lesson.
Permalink Reply by Kathryn (Kate) Bales on June 20, 2012 at 2:59am There is an old saying that you might be familiar with. Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. We older folks can share our knowledge with the youngsters. How many of them know that roasted dandelion root makes an adequate substitute for coffee, the leaves make a delicious salad, and the flowers wine? One of the most useful plants in your yard. All parts of the false dandelion, while not toxic, are extremely bitter. Most people are unable to distinguish between the two.
How many are aware that spider webs can control bleeding, or that tree moss makes an excellent poultice to draw out infection? Neither are routinely stocked in the average first aid kit, but are readily available in the field. The inner bark of a willow is what aspirin is made of, and can be chewed as a pain killer and fever reducer.
Just four items that are easily located in almost any terrain that can either save lives or provide a modicum of civilization to an isolated camp.
Dogs, especially terriers, can be used to run down small game for the dinner table. A pair of larger dogs can bring down a deer in near silence, providing ample fresh meat without a gunshot giving away the fact that a camp is nearby.
These are just a few simple skills that most city folks are unaware of, but can be taught in just a short lesson.
Bows and arrows have long been successfully used as silent killers, and can easily be constructed by those who are confined to camp with a bit of practice. Those who are more mobile can bring in the supplies.
What I am trying to say is that a camp can be completely self sufficient, even after supplies that have been carried in are depleted. Us old folks who have been there and done that can teach the younger, stronger members how to stay alive. We can be placed in outlying areas as perimeter guards. Some of us can do tracking and scouting, skills that are not normally taught in PS 63. We may not move as fast we once did, and we may need more frequent rest breaks, but the job will be done, and done right.
Permalink Reply by Nam Vet on June 21, 2012 at 5:01pm I have the small dogs and one larger dog. I know that the Golden Retreiver will hunt birds. She cought a pigon in my back yard. She got angry with me when I made her let the bird go. I worry about lice. In a survival situation, things would likely be different.
Permalink Reply by Nam Vet on June 21, 2012 at 5:09pm If I have anyone young with us, it will be my nephews. I think I can teach them a thing or two even about reading track and laying their own false trails.
The main thing they need to learn is noise reduction as well as light reduction. Out here in the desert, both sound and light really travels a far piece.
Not faling asleep while on guard is yet another deadly problem that has gotten many people killed or captured. Teaching dogs not to bark will be my biggest chore. I have taught them to bark on command. That was fairly easy. The Stop Barking will not be nearly as easy.

Permalink Reply by Nam Vet on June 11, 2012 at 10:44am I am happy that my bit got a Good Positive Responce. Never say, "Never." Until they play the song, "Another One Bites The Dust." And even then we should do our best to Keep One Getting Up.
