As far as I know, old-scool Diesels don't require the use of anything electronic once they're started.  I have a plan to get a vehicle together that can run without anything electric.  Maybe a 12v Cummins pickup with the electric pumps replaced with mechanical ones.  Should be pretty straightforward.

 

Does anyone have information about whether an emp could take out electronics that aren't in use?  For example, the starter from a truck?

I believe that an EMP can take out most anything with a microchip in it. So simple electronics like flashlights will still work. However if you wish to protect a vehicle, I would recommend an older style before computers where used in them. Leaning toward trucks with points and mechanical carburetors. I would remove all the fuses, store a 12V battery in a Faready cage, attach a chain to one end of the steel chasis and another to the ground, and finish finally by throwing a Faraday Blanket over the entire thing. But maybe I should save this rant for a training session... :) anyway, good luck with your project Mr. Holod.

I have a Sergeant Adkins that is a former MMA wrestler that wouldnt mind teaching some hand to hand combat skills. (He is a Corparal right now but will be at Sergeant status by June)I think you may have him on facebook.
