The first meeting of SECOM was held near Adel, GA on 30 April, 2011.  In attendance were representatives of militia groups from 9 states.  Most of the SE states were represented and some came from as far as TX to the west and OH to the north.  I believe the approximate total number of attendees was somewhere around 40 people.  This being the first meeting on this historic occasion, the main thing that came of it was that we all are in agreement that we can indeed work together.  We didn't have enough time to do all that we had planned to do (you never do at one of these things) but at least we have a start.  We are going to be setting up a communications working group to start working on regional radio nets for emergency communications.  This will take some time and effort, but I intend to be heavily involved in this and I believe GA will lead the way.

I was very glad to meet in person many people who I have talked to on WRAM and on the phone for the last year.  Joe Sims was there with one other guy from MoG and I was very happy to meet them.  Amelia did a great job putting this all together and all the different presentations were great.  We covered everything from communications basics to first aid and even some combat drills.  All in all it was more fun and fellowship than anything else, but a lot of contacts were made with people in other states that will be valuable in cooperation and communication in the future.  Everybody there agreed that this was the first gathering of so many representatives of militias from different states in modern history.  Just the fact that we all agreed to gather together in a spirit of cooperation is a great leap forward in the process of uniting the entire militia movement in this country.  Now we just need to get down to brass tacks and do the work necessary to put the things in place we need to implement this spirit in the real world.  I look for more great things to come in the future with this group and hope to see every other region in the country establish a similar group.
