Equipment list

Here are a few Items I would like to see all in the NMM have on hand and ready at a moment's notice.
List will be updated as items are brought up to my attention

1: sleeping bag 1 per person.
pref a rating of -10 not allot of places in NM gets colder than that, and it's still a weight that is packable.

2: tent 1 per every 1 - 2 people
2 man tents are preferable. they can be set up almost anyplace and taken down without allot of time involved. They are light and packable. they should be low profile... try to avoid bright colors and nothing over 5'tall... spray paint may be an option olive drab and tan. Bright colored tents should only be put up after dark and taken down before sunrise...

3: tarps 2
one for the bottom of your tent, and one for the top. at least one should be low profile. look for camouflaged tarps, or paint one up olive drab and tan fits in well in most of NM.

4: sleeping mat 1 per person
preferably just the foam mats. they are light and can't go flat on you in the middle of the night. also they can be used as a sled or litter for wounded.

5: cordage
Rope, parachute cord, 550 cord... you just can't have enough of this and you will always need it.

6: Knife 2 per person
1 large knife for fighting, defending, cutting large things with... I like K-Bars but anything along that line should work. 1 multi tool, like a Leatherman. these tools can be invaluable.

7: collapsible shovel 1 per person
these are great for digging big and small holes. most have an edge for hacking with good for cutting small tree limbs and defending with.

8: canteen with drinking cup 2 per person
water may be short. We will all need to have water with us at all times. If you have a gasmask with a drinking tube, make sure the cap on your canteen works with your drinking tube. If you need to wear a gas mask for any amount of time you will need to drink.

9: clothing
This one is tricky and I will need more info on our preferred uniform but each person will need at least 3 sets of shirts and pants. 6 pair of socks. 1 pair of sturdy boots. 1 pair of leather gloves. no white undergarments if your pants rip you don't want to be sporting a bunny tail. 1 or 2 belts... chances are we will all be a little thinner after a few weeks so a sling style belt or a military uniform belt would be good. anything that can be much smaller than what you need now is good.

10: water 5 gal per person
Each person should bring 5 gal of water. while that's not a packable amount of water it will supply for short term. and will need to be consolidated and rationed until another water source is located.

11: weapons
While most everyone of us should have firearms and ammo not all of us do. If you are debating on a weapon of choice. My recommendation would be a side arm and a 12 gauge shot gun. Assault weapons are nice but expensive. I like the AR 10 in .308 win because you can use both .308 win and 7.62X51 NATO. plus you can out range most military ground units with the .308 win.
If for some reason you do not wish to carry a weapon. DO NOT WORRY! We have you covered. we will have need for more than just trigger pullers. so please don't feel that you must have a weapon.

12: ammo 800 rounds per weapon
It sounds like allot of ammo... it's not... but it is more than most people will want to carry.

13: Gas Mask 1 per person
a gas mask with a drinking tube is a great idea. at least one change of filters. also check masks and make sure all valves are in place and in good condition. and that it fits.

14: Food 3 days per person
non perishable food... MRE... canned... freeze dried... as long as you have 3 days worth of food. we will need to find food supplies just like water as we move.

15: Barter Items
We cannot plan for everything we may need... but we know people well enough to know what will be short in a SHTF situation... look at storing things like Cigarettes.. even if you don't smoke.. it's for trade. Toilet paper could be worth more than money... AA batteries... little things... whatever you think might get a better trade in a bad situation.

16: Hygiene items

Tooth Brush, tooth paste, soap, wash cloth, large towel, TP, foot powder. razors for shaving.
I hate to shave. But if my choice is a beard and a poor fit on my gas mask or clean shaven and still being combat ready in a CS cloud... Ill shave.
Tooth brush. an abscess will kill you... take care of your teeth. enough said.

17: weapon cleaning kit
what ever you need to keep your weapon clean and ready. I suggest a multi kit... oil or CLP a bag or two of patches. a tooth brush for your weapon and punch rods. Keep your weapon clean!

18: Backpack
something large enough to carry most of these items. and comfortable to wear. large ALICE packs with frame are good.

19: Web belt with load bearing vest or harness. 1 per person

20: ammo pouches

21: compass with compass pouch. or GPS with pouch

22: Poncho and Poncho Liner

23: bungee cords 15 total

5 small 5 med 5 large

24: First aid kit.

25: Trash bags 5 per person
Not only can they be used to collect trash but they have many first aid uses. Plastic is also great for water collection if needed. or to store your gear in to keep it dry. 5 bags per person is a minimum. you'll want more.

26: Flashlight with red lenses cap

27: Extra batteries
look at what you pack and the batteries the items use...

28: Plastic wrap 1 roll per person
good for first aid... dry gear... water collection... food storage, and just about anything you can dream up...

29: Camouflage netting 9x10
this has many uses... even good for covering up high profile tents... gear... vehicles... or just joined together to make a shaded area for eating, mission planning, or just a place for teaching... this item is HEAVY and the real good stuff is EXPENSIVE... Don't plan on packing it in your back pack.

30: Camo stick
It may at some point be necessary for us to go in to full tactical mode... full camo will be required of all forward operators. Face paint has a psychological effect on the masses... so don't use it if it's not absolutely necessary... we don't need to scare civilians... It's bad PR. And bad PR gets your movements reported to your enemy.

31: Holster and sling
You know your equipment and what works best for you...

32: Large gear bag 1 per person

33: Water purification tablets 2 bottles per person

I believe we need to keep cell phones at home... many of us will want to contact family... this gives away your location and the location of your family... Cell phones also pose a HUGE risk to OPSEC, so please no phones. they can be used as a GPS locator... a bug to ease drop... and even video can be gained from them even when they are off.
Radios should also be handled primarily by HQ and always with OPSEC in mind with coded comms.
Anyone caught with a cell phone or radio should be questioned about the use of the items BY HQ.

Well done, QM, Please keep this on file so we can refer to it in the future.

Sorry i took down the old post... the comments were great... I had so many changes to make that it was best just to scrap and start a new one... and the old one was just hard to read... but ive figured out how to make the changes without pulling it down again...

Hey that guy in Roswell's gas masks didn't have really big eyeholes and long headstraps by any chance?

Just kidding

Good hookup!

Both of them are on the main page along with my discussion. No prob PM on it's way to you.

This is a great list!

Something I'd like to add to this list as a backup water storage system. It sounds funny but works:

A pack of non-lubricated condoms. A single condom can hold well over a gallon of water and can be used to collect it from a stream or other viable water source and transported without bursting.

And also, about the GPS. Great stuff to have, but I would also include laminated maps of the local area inside the bag, for when you run out of batteries, which will happen given enough time. Unless you can carry with you a small solar charger to charge your batteries during the day time. Also glow-sticks wouldn't be a bad idea as backup lighting.

About the belts in the clothing section. Talking about losing weight, the under-belts used by police are velcro. They can be worn whether you weigh 300lbs or 100lbs. I've been wearing one for over a year now and it's the only belt I use. It stays snug and can still be used to secure your gun/duty belt to.

What about a bandanna? Many uses for a bandanna. Camouflage of course. And a boonie-hat maybe? Help keep the sun off you and out of your eyes.

And forgive me if I missed it if it was listed, but a good knife? A stout, fixed-blade knife can mean the difference between life and death. To me, it is always number one. Keep it sharp and ready.

All I have for now. I'll try to think of some more.

Actualy i like the idea of adding condoms in the list... but its more of a hygene issue... In the Marines we were never let lose without one... married or not... an STD in the field makes a soldier into a casualty...

as for GPS i agree batteries are an issue... Maps are great if you can get good ones and everyone is useing the same...

bandnanas are a good idea many useses... and a cover should be worn at all times when outside... but thats going to be up to the people that decide what the uniform will be.

Knife was number 6... dont feel bad i had to go look again also...

Wow, I can't believe I missed it. Thanks Steve!

I do not know if the newer versions allow one to turn off the GPS,the older versions did?  The newer versions may also have a way for the gov to turn it back on if off by them-but electronics can be modified by taking to someone with elctronic experiance,as this is the way one cell pnoe based on one co. is opened up to serving other co.'s,either just the one other co. wanted to switch it to,or open the uint to being able to be switched to any co,though need to tell them which co. you want it setup to work for at this particular time of use,but once sone, phone is open to switching co.'s.

Tv.'s,cars/trucks also have GPS built into them, even when not a user option for the driver& worse, some of these can result in gov being able to shut down your entire electronics or just the motor at gov will& you can NOT turn it back on till they let you.
The "V" device should be able to be got around.
