CHAPTER II: FOREST SERVICE, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
PART 261: PROHIBITIONS
Subpart A: General Prohibitions
261.10 - Occupancy and use.
The following are prohibited:
(d) Discharging a firearm or any other implement capable of taking human life, causing injury, or damaging property as follows:
(1) In or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site or occupied area, or
(2) Across or on a National Forest System road or a body of water adjacent thereto, or in any manner or place whereby any person or property is exposed to injury or damage as a result in such discharge.
(3) Into or within any cave.
I spoke with our local Ranger he gave me a pamphlet which states these exact regs, also his only suggestion was to be courteous to officer when you are in 'open carry mode'.
I have a call into the Mountainair office to verify the above. One thing I do have at this time is that there is NO potable water @ the campground so this will be a concern for all of us.
At this time I think this could very well be handled in one day, perhaps two should we decide that would be better.
Permalink Reply by Al Massaro on August 19, 2011 at 2:48pm Don't bow and muzzle-loader seasons should start somewhere in that time???
Might be competition for campsites.

14 Sandia Ranger District is open to bow only Oct. 22-26
This is the GMU for that area, as you can see should not be a conflict
NMDGF Map
I have a phone con scheduled with Mountainair Ranger District I will verify this.

Permalink Reply by Al Massaro on August 22, 2011 at 4:55pm As per telecon today with the Mountainair Ranger office:
She suggested perhaps moving to the Red Canyon campground, this is the same caliber of CG as Fourth of July.
Any suggestions from the group as to what you would prefer to do?
