Welcome to WRAM. I'd suggest, you get to know some of the units here in Ohio. Meet these folks, and discuss issues face to face, as often as possible. What you will find is, every unit out there has faced issues, many of the same.
Recruiting.... well that is a tough one. You won't recruit anyone that does not want to be recruited, obviously, however, you will run across those that want to be recruited but refuse to set aside time for training. Which, doesn't help either.
You have three units that are relatively close to your area. I think, but not certain, another unit just recently formed in your area as well. I encourage you to talk with some of these groups. They will assist you.
My info is listed on my profile. Feel free to give me a call, if you wish.

First of all, don't make a big noise about getting your militia started. That's a good way to attract government agents. Recruiting will be done on a personal basis. Whom do you know that shares your views? How many of them are "reliable," that is, they can keep their mouths shut, they can be trusted with your back, they won't get rattled when things get tight? Those are the people to start with. They can lead you to others who will make good recruits.
Decide what the objectives of your militia are. How many people will you need? What's your AO? What needs to be done in that AO (i.e., attacked, defended, neutralized)?
Remember that for every militia member on what the IRA called "active service" you will need anywhere from 3 to 10 people for logistical support, intelligence gathering, maintaining safe houses, and other "backup" activities. Look for these among those who share your views but are not able to become militia members (the elderly, the disabled, those with invalid family members, etc.). Recruit them.
How and where will you conduct your training? How much of your training can be clandestine? For instance, instead of setting up your own gun range, can you have people join a local gun club and use that facility without identifying themselves with your militia?
I could go on at length, but I already have. My book RESISTANCE TO TYRANNY goes into a lot of this. Get it from Amazon.
Permalink Reply by Walter on January 15, 2012 at 5:02pm Great advice. This should be one of the first things that people see when they log into the site. You could post this advice to all of the groups, but what a pain! This would be a great answer to a question in a FAQ page available in the main navigation links at the top of every page.
I am about halfway through your book. It is a great book, and an good read too. It should be required reading for everybody who is serious about figuring out how to stop the tyrannical encroachment of our government.

Permalink Reply by Phillip P. Foreman on July 21, 2012 at 5:03am Guys I been looking all over and maybe I'm asking the wrong questions but I'm not getting any firm answers. What in the heck is the statutory authority in Ohio for an Unorganized Militia? Where does one look for established rules, guidelines, limitations, operational authority, etc? Also, everybody has a rank but I found an Ohio law that says the insignia used for the ranks of the Ohio National Guard and the Ohio Air National Guard may not be worn by those who are not members..yadda yadda yadda. How are you getting around this? I would eventually like to offer rank to the members of SOLO but I don't want to be going to jail for anything short of shooting a heavily armed terrorist in the process of committing a felony! {8<{) Oh, when I get mu ducks lined up, and seem to be getting there pretty quick, I'll neecd some WRAM support to put the group on the site here if that is a doable thing.

The Ohio State Reserve is an Organized Militia.
The Ohio National Guard is not, being an part of the Regular Standing Army at need.
You & all other Ohio Units would still be listed as UN Organized Militia, even better, not subject to Federal Call Up,nor Service out of State. Nor Forced Service, they can call, you do not have to answer,"Normally"-Warning:there still is the Federal Call Up ALL Americans face at Federal need, for Federal Level Service. No Opt Out i am aware of,but i have not heard of this level Call Up ever having been used, could be wrong though.

Permalink Reply by Phillip P. Foreman on July 30, 2012 at 9:30am Found a good combination in ORC 5923 Sections A and D. Now I need to study Section D to assure that it doesn't exclude from Unorganized Militias the Potential assets excluded from Sections A and B. I feel fairly comfortable that an arguement for either case can be made. Studying this point and Dick Act. Thanks again.
