Darkwood, never gave it much thought. Many of my neighbors are elderly and seems their are plenty of children as well. But i do have many options left open to myself on what and how to do things...but it boils down to what my/the priorities are i guess! I have no real family, own my home and to much "gear" to move all at once or leave any behind. I can not just turn away from my own community that just might need me most. So it's a game of wait and see...but i'll make a freakin difference...not a clean get-away! I don't really fear my fate, but i fear for my Nations future. What i'm trying to say is this, i can't save the world...but i can create a firestorm in my little piece of it! And that's for GD sure.

I guess the better question to pose is knowing your neighbors are not prepared and do not understand what is truely going on will you offer them support and aid when SHTF or will they die like everyone else trying to get what you have. Personally myself I let people know I am a prepper and try to teach them because I know when SHTF I will already be gone. Since my motto is Train, Prepare, Drop off the Grid and After the dust settles take our nation back.

 Well...in my piece of the world, those that would flee are making a clear choice and will foreit all...including their voice! Because, if that's how you view/see the American community or your neighborhood...don't think i'll want/need/like you as a neighbor! If that sounds cold...so sorry...but that's the price one pays for self presevation. I've never run from a fight...or lost one yet...i think GOD likes me. And my life's battle motto has always been "Sine metu..sine amor" or without fear/without love. And will just deal with my conscience later...it can't kill me.

No that I seek to change your mind but I guess I owe you a reason why I would run. My current dwelling does not lend itself to be a well defended location (open access to all sides with dwellings near by) Nor do I trust my neighbors not to turn on each other quickly if the criminal element does not roll first (I live near some drug dealers and their posse' and I hold no illusions that they would seek to expand when SHTF).

Oh-hell Orion Darkwood, that's NOT running man...that's a "tactical drawback" and shows "good sense" when ya know or feel that further review is required! Nobody need be a lone speedbump and why i'm re-thinking the whole silenced weapon concept. But i really do doubt you'll ever be on your own at that point. I've heard it said, "the good LORD watches over childern, fools, drunks and the United States". OLL

I agree with Train, Prepare, and take our country back. But the Drop Off The Grid program will come back to bite you in your ass. To begin with, you simply cannot have the infrastructure necessary to sustain an army. Which is what you will need when you come back to fight the forces in charge. They will not be good folks. Because the good folks are all dead at their hands. The people they needed to stand beside them to protect the country when the chips were down abandoned them by going off the grid. You can probably sustain a fireteam or two. But what good will that be against the ones who control the mechanics of society? The best approach I have been able to ascertain after a program of 30 years of research and study, is to stand beside the local, regional, and state governments. This is where the war will be won. This is where we live, work, play, raise our children. This is where our communities will need us most. Leading the way to rebuilding and securing our communities. Why does the shit need to hit the fan? Would it not be prudent to establish community reaction teams? Proactive groups that can be trained and equipped to deal with such scnearios? Granted alot of people will not join. But get a couple in. Then they can bring in more, and so forth. Before long, you will have a program. Start it off with simple weekend gathering. BBQ, or grill up some steaks or burgers. Get to know eachother. Broach the subject by brining in examples of natural disaster. Potential tornadoes, wild fires...etc. Some people will simply be turned off by the political aspect, but if you bring them up to date slowly, they will eventually catch on to the reality. 1 out of 3 people in a neighborhood that plan, train, and deploy together in an organized, competent manner, can overcome most any rampaging mob. Just like a well trained, equipped, and deployed small military unit can defeat a large group of unorganized hunters armed with weapons much more powerful than the military unit. The strength lies in the preparations. Not always in the numbers.

If you bug out, then try to come back. You will be entering a hostile environment populated by complete strangers. How do you plan to successfully organize and equip them to assist you in your program? All the while, you will be under duress from the governing agencies that have no intention of allowing you to do this freely.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to insult you, or your intentions. But, my point is, look at the South American factions. They bugged out and ran off into the jungles and the woods. Abandoning their communities and homes. Now they were faced with trying to win back their government by force of arms. All the while they were undermanned, outgunned, outnumbered, with no infrastructure or sustainability programs. Virtually zero medical care beyond the most primitive applications. But, their enemy enjoyed all those things.

Isn't it easier to prevent a fire than to try to put it out after it has alrady destroyed pretty much everything you own?

Work and plan toward sustaining a manageable program to save your town, not abandoning it then trying to come back and take it away from a determined and better equipped force of arms.

Travis , what you say is the best I've heard . Very similar to what we're doing . I live in an area that has the most Veterans per capita in the Country . That is not necessarily a good thing as most Veterans I know have just dropped out and don't care where any of this leads to .
That troubles me very much because they're a great resource . Many of them have fought and know the rules , they got a gun ,kill em' . I can sympathize and know their reasons but we all took the same oath . Losing is not an option for me or my neighbors most of which are combat Vets . I just know that if it comes to a fight we'll just do the best we can but are not under any illusions that we can beat em' off .
We have been active in politics and have changed the way things are looked at but it may be too little , too late .

DJ , Same with me , no family but my extended family (friends) are warriors . Most of my neighbors are like minded . So I'm better off than most . Unless you happen to own one of those missile silos you can't be better prepared than we are . If they come we would be on their clean up as we are country dwellers most with many forested acres . It can present it's own set of problems .

Just bought a 1911 Rem.R1 .45 and a Glock 10mm subcompact but haven't picked up the Glock yet . Not much of a Glock fan so may trade it in for something else . I'd like a 1911 Ruger 10mm but they won't be shipping for a couple of months . Said to be more accurate than the R1 but would have to see it to believe it . The Remington is incredibly accurate , sub 2" ,25 yds. with ball ammo and I've never able to master pistols and always left them behind in Nam . Had twin 60's and never had a problem hitting with them . If you shot at it you hit it and it died, period !

You would be better suited and enjoy a better chance of success by bringing together your entire community than attempting to defend against a horde after your resources. A half a dozen or even a dozen, well armed and equipped fighting men and women simply cannot hold and defend a program of sustainable resources for any length of time. especially when you are faced with those who are killed or wounded. You would be better suited to training a deployment force to protect the vital infrastructure of your community, in conjunction with local government entities. The Governor will be able to deploy National Guard units to assist. Who better knows the local and regional aspects than a well trained Militia unit? They will be invaluable to the program of community protection.

I am almost 70 but I will still put up one hell of a fight. I go to the range at least weekly and am constantly buying ammo. I am not disillusioned enough to think I will win but many, many will be down before I am. I know my neighbors will be sheeple and stick with "the annointed one". I don't know anyone near me who thinks as I do, I live in a predominately democrapic area. Are there any like minded people near garner, NC? If there are, please let me know.

How about joining forces with the older war vets? Korea, Vietnam....those were the best training grounds available back then. Today obviously, it's the Middle Eastern Theater. Create a group able to promote community action. Be proactive in your approach. You are the elder generation. teach those youngun's who want to learn. There are many young men and women who could benefit from your knowledge more than you sacrificing your life needlessly in a failed program that accomplished nothing in the end. Better to produce a program of sustainability and security to protect your community and the viability of its infrastructure than to go off half cocked and be shot down in some random firefight.
