Permalink Reply by Minuteman on March 9, 2012 at 11:36am Valerie, the Sheriff has the ultimate power in their county!! Not the Governor nor even the president trump that power under the Constitution!! Sheriff Richard Mack proved this in a Supream Court case ruling back in the 90ies! I will let Keith finish this because he will most likely have more detailed info other than what i post here!! But that should get you what you need if you Google Richard Mack and read the info!!
Permalink Reply by Eva Jermanski on April 17, 2013 at 7:25am Minuteman, That was my understanding as well. But last year, the Attorney General of Delaware, who incidentally is Bidens son!, stripped their states Sheriffs of their arrest powers. If that can be done, then the AG has higher power? Maybe just of that state? Do you know anything about this? Here is one article about it.
Biden's Son Strips Sheriffs of the Power to Arrest in Delaware

Val, the Tennessee Sheriffs Manual states; The sheriff “is the commander in chief of the law forces of the county. All judicial and ministerial officers of justice and all city officials are required to aid him, and the male population of his county is subject to his command ‘in the prevention and suppression,’ not only of violent breaches of the peace, but of all public offenses.” State ex rel. Thompson v. Reichman, 188 S.W. 225, 227-228 (Tenn. 1916). “The duties and powers of a sheriff within the limits of an incorporated city are precisely the same that they are in the remainder of the county. The law draws no distinction.” Reichman at 228
this is comman law and all elected sheriff's have this power.
These laws go back to England befor the US existed and it remains that way today.
Permalink Reply by Valerie Eggers on March 9, 2012 at 4:57pm I want to thank you for answering my question and so thoroughly. I am glad I asked it. I am also to read that the Office of Sheriff has at least as much authority as I suspected it does. It may well be our best defense in the country against what I consider an administration gone rogue. Thanks again.
It is and you are welcome
Permalink Reply by Valerie Eggers on September 4, 2012 at 3:31pm Sounds pretty powerful to me. I believe the position of sheriff is what helps Arpaio against Obama and Co.
Permalink Reply by Colorado Badger on March 12, 2012 at 9:52am I might be wrong, but I heard that the actual top of the power in the county is the county coroner. The county coroner is actually "technically" the only one who can arrest a Sheriff for dereliction of duties or corruption.
The trick is, how does the coroner who is not tactically trained remove a corrupt Sheriff?
THE LOCAL MILITIA!
Think about this if your Sheriff is swallowed up by the machine.
Permalink Reply by Quisno-Son of the Republic on March 19, 2012 at 3:04pm you must understand that the coroner being an elected official but not of the law only a part of the counties staff. he also comes through the committees of safety as a watch dog for any type of death by normal means as well as pepetrated.his duty is to the peoples of that county but separate and apart from the sheriffs office. Badger remember that the committees of information and safety are the peoples civic structure from which all law and civic power comes from in a Republic.
