Joyce, good luck and you are correct in what you are thinking. The merge needs to be ready Before the SHTF. NOT AFTER - while in the middle of it. Building up and knowing- most of the people in the Group before hand, will strengthen your survival chances for the whole group.
I so agree. Recently tried to join the "63rd WA Light Foot" in the Spokane area, but they are only thinking of Military Style, with no room for us who are not totally military. If SHTF, we need all, And not just military...!!! We all need to group: Cooks, Gardeners, Farmers, Vet's/Dr's, Military, Mechanic's, everyone. If we are to survive. Learning together and getting to know each other before hand, is so much a plus. We know more of our strengths and weaknesses.
Since I felt the same way as you, I kept looking, and finally found a group (who has just started) and who believes the same thing. There are many who are military, and many who are not. Since we are so new, we only have 76 members, and building.
So anyone in the Spokane/Spokane Valley, and any area's closeby, that want to join us can. We are doing meetups for Learning and getting to know one another. This way we know each other before the SHTF.
We are: Spokane Preppers and Survivalists.

Permalink Reply by Patrick Pepper on June 21, 2012 at 9:04pm My name is Patrick Pepper, I live on Bainbridge Island. My daughters mother lives in West Seattle. If the SHTF I am skilled enough to be comfortable with heading to West Seattle under any conditions the region might be in. It sure would be nice to have a person and a place I can feel comfortable enough to rest, hydrate, get a news update, and move on. Is there a way to meet and greet and discuss options. My zip is 98110.
Hi, I have talked to Several people, and West Coast Seatle people, Very few are into survival mode. Many of the ones I talk to, have to come to the Spokane area for that. Good Luck.

Permalink Reply by Scharfschütze on June 22, 2012 at 7:25pm Might I suggest to you and Victoria H. that if you're not into what the militia does (you know the whole training thing) That you look into starting a much needed Committee Of Safety for the state of Washington. As I believe that one has not been created (although I could be wrong) or any unit would benefit greatly from "in the rear with the gear" types who want to help, but not wear the camo. Just some alternatives to think about.
Thanks Joyce. Where did we say, that we are not into what the Militia does. I do much of what the militia does, but physically am not able to be out there like them. But I am a Co-organizer of a group "Spokane Preppers and Survivalist" group, that helps people to prepare. And I have several ex-military in our group, and a couple of guys who have joined the 63rd WA militia. Even though we are different, we still support them. But my group is trying to teach people to see what is going on, to stock needed supplies, learn how to use and fire weapons, self defense, communications, food storage and preserving, gardeinging and seeding.
All of this, in time - will help our cause. It may not be what you do, but I know a lot of Milita that don't have skills except for Guns. We need all of us to survive.
So you get in the back.

Please re-ready and think before you speak because I wasn't bashing you. I was giving alternatives... and please look up the definition of the word Militia.

Permalink Reply by John M. Bridge on August 8, 2012 at 6:10am I too am looking for like minded folks who are interested in getting together. I live in Monroe but there doesn't seem to be a NW WA group. I am also looking for a place where I can target practice with my rifle, driving way the hell out into the woods isn't very convenient.
