I mistakenly sent all the weapons and ammo group this, so Iam going to try this again. I do not know much about tactical weapons. I can only afford one rifle right now. I would like to have a gun that I can go to training events with and also hunt big game with. The 308 would fit that catagory although the 270 would also. The 223 would most likely be the best rifle to go to training with because of the lesser cost of ammo, but I would not be able to hunt with it.  I wanted to ask every body thier opinions on what they think from their experience, if you could only buy one gun for both purposes what make and caliber would you purchase and why? I know that there are a lot of makes out there, and many of them are good, but which one would you choose?

What ever your fancy, I humbly recommend that you stock up now! I have been watching ammo inventory by all the major distributors and I am telling you right now, you be best stack it deep while you still can. It is evaporating by the minute, if you don't believe me, than go to what ever distributors you buy from and check whats in stock. I can tell you that 5.56x45/223 and 7.62x39 is flying off the shelves if you can find it in stock.

Whoops, there I go again! I keep slipping and running my mouth! I can't help what I see though and quite honestly, without the brass or steel to pack your clips full, you are nothing but a sitting duck! I only wish I had 10K to stack it deep and wide.

God Bless and keep your powder dry!

i made a launcher out of 2 inch pipe using golden powder and it makes some good sounds.

Marine68, try Wideners.com, they are a pretty good source for reloading supplies as well as bulk ammo. It really is scary when the supply chain seems to be drying up! It makes me wonder whats driving the shortages other than high volume of sales.

They have a few crates left of Yugo 7.62x39 but in the last week it jumped $20 from $225 to $245 which tells me something is going on with the supply chain.

God Bless and keep your powder dry!

Glad to help brother! Semper Fi!

God bless you both

The 308 NATO offers hunting of animals and enemy. It loads in guns made by many manufacturers. So its great as a home defense when well stocked. Then the ammo can be used by others near by when under mass attack. I have the Remington 308 sniper rifle. Its a bolt action, and its draw back is it has no magazine. It has the hog sniper barrel and a good scope. I am looking for a conversion kit to give it a magazine. I am saving for a 50cal for stopping trucks in the civil war that may get pushed on us. I always recommend when civil war is pushed on us we plan an 80% sniper war. Stay back as far as possible to pick em off.

you better have a good spotter for the .50 and a 7mag is a better stopper than the .308 at a 1000 yds

I disagree Doc. A small percentage of the coming fight is going to be fought at ranges greater than 100-150 meters. When I was in Afghanistan, the vast majority of our engagements were well within 150. The reason behind this was that the further away the Talibs engaged us from, the easier it was for us to call in CAS and arty on them. They knew this, and the Militia ought to know this as well. The closer you get to them, the harder it will be to call in supporting arms onto you, until it gets to the point (<125-150) where it's damn near impossible without the substantial risk of getting hit with it themselves. Then it becomes a rifle fight. While I do beleive that individual marksmanship skills and development are fundamentally important, Patriots HAVE to be a proficient as possible at basic infantry skills and small unit tactics to include the ability to close with the enemy, and engage and destroy them in close quarters combat.

Navy Seal Hero Kriss Kyle with 160 kills published a new book "American Sniper". He reports that the Afgan war is really a sniper war. Sharp shooter muslims have come from all over the world to pick of our military. He gives examples of the fire fights with those snipers. Some of ours have been killed by them. He recommends the winchester mag or the 338 Lapua. The key issue is that is a long range war. GardVet one could estimate there will be two areas of fighting. some will of course be close in. need good combat practice for that. However, I have seen militia's advancing in groups in a rather flat field as though they never heard of the gatling gun or other high volume machine guns. One can expect that if someone like Obama arms the black panthers their skill level will be low. They also will plan to drive into the town and rape and murder. Thus, heavy caliber guns will stop the trucks. Most socialists are from the big cities like the black panthers. They will not be in shape for accross country wave assaults. So after trucks are stopped then the smaller arms will do fine. Bottom line is that Civil War in the generation will not be the same as in the past.

Is that the person who said that he had knocked down Jesse Ventura whom he reported was talking against the same navy Seals he was part of? I spoke to Ventura about that incident and was told that he (Jesse Ventura) never pressed the statement as he said it would do the Navy Seals no good! just wanting to know?

What's rhe best way to stop a truck? "SHOOT THE DRIVER!" My 357 Dan Wesson is perfect for that! The 9mms, 38s, might just bounce off!

Following is a link to a dealer I have dealt with before. Bought an H&K from him. The guy is responsive and honest. Great products. Also has an excellent layaway plan.

AR-15 VS. SU-16 9 Replies

My home group and I have decided to standardize our ammunition and have chosen the 5.56 NATO round as our standard so that when the time comes, we can exchange ammo and mags in the heat of battle if need be. None of us want to be caught running out…Continue
