Here is an update on the situation in Mexico regarding the Bird Flu. It seems that everyone is keeping an “eye” on this one because of the fact that the last pandemic came from Mexico (2009 H1N1)

The current numbers of 3.4 million affected poultry is triple the original estimates . I do not believe that this is a fact of the virus spread, but I believe this could be that the government officials are finally getting correct numbers of infected birds.

As a precaution I am recommending that we take a look at our family emergency plans and update our pandemic protocols. Begin ensuring our supply levels are up to adequate level, N95s, disposable medical gowns, rubber gloves. Also ensure that you have procedures in place for home treatment of those infected with the flu.

I do not believe this incident in Mexico is going to breakout into a full pandemic, however the potential is there and precautions are need in order to make sure we do not become victims.
