Sunspot AR1515, did not disappoint us. It produced a X1.1 just after 7pm EST. The CME that was produced looks like it is heading south of Sol, so we should not get any direct hit from this one.

Active Region (AR) 1515 is about 118,681miles of the sun’s surface. This is longer then 15 earths laid side by side.

This flare is the fifth X-Class flare we have seen this year and AR 1519 which looks to be shaping up to be another AR1515 in coming into earth’s view over the South-western limb of the sun. This is making Solar Cycle 24 a very interesting cycle and it is should peek in 2013.

We need to review our Preparedness plans for blackouts and communication disruption protocols, in order to prepare for a worst case scenario. Most experts agree that we should not have anything close to a worst case scenario with this current activity, we should be prepared for communication disruptions and GPS inaccuracies
